Online dating has been maybe the fastest growing trend ever since fast food. It has grown phenomenally with multiple dating sites opening up every other day, and millions of profiles. One of the main reasons for this unbelievable rate of popularity is that online dating has made life very easy for people. It is much easier to meet new people while sitting at your home. All you have to do is make a profile, match up to prospects and start talking. But has this convenience actually worked against our favor?
Many people would disagree. For them, it is a convenient and inexpensive way of getting to know new people, without wasting money on a bad first date. They can scope out the person online and if it doesn’t work out, no harm done. But has that caused us to stop respecting the other person? That may actually be happening. In the olden days, there were proper courtships. That gave way to movie and dinner dates. But now, dates take place online. The reason is that, everything has become virtual! Is this really the way to date someone?
Another major issue that people are facing with online dating is that of fake profiles. Stalking and predator behavior has increased tenfold thanks to the virtual need of people to reveal everything about themselves online. People tend to share overwhelming stuff, even in general life. On the internet, however, things can take a dangerous turn if the information gets in the wrong hands. Also, a person may start liking another person a lot and may be led to heartbreak if it turns out that the person on the other end was merely a fake profile and people were toying with your emotions just for laughs. Things like that can remove your trust from this virtual world.
Another reason people are beginning to believe why online dating is a curse is that people have become more introverted than ever before! Why would you bother going out of your house when even dating can be done on the internet! Everything from shopping to ordering food can be done on the internet now. Add to this dating and people have no reason to leave the comfort of their homes. This is making people more cut off from society than ever before. If every person starts living in a bubble of their own with their technology, the world is going to become a very lonely place. Online dating is a great alternative, but should only be used in moderation.
